The Wayfarers Summer Solstice Ride

Some people like to celebrate the Summer Solstice by dressing in long robes and dancing around a load of big stones. Well we at the Wayfarers prefer a more gastronomic approach.

Each year, on the Sunday nearest the Solstice, we gather at the Hare and Hounds pub at Downend. 6am is the meeting time and a pleasant 2 hour ride culminates in a full English breakfast, with 'trimmings' ( see image above )

It is well worth the effort of rising early as there is very little traffic, giving riders greater opportunity for sightseeing and more 'on the wheel' conversation.

The venue of the meal varies from year to year but is usually a traditional style cafe at Sandown with a view of the sea being one of the main ingredients, besides sausages of course. Having dined on fine English cuisine, the group, now somewhat heavier, make their way to an 11,o,clock tea stop. By this time the cars have once again risen to their usual 'fumey' numbers and the magical interlude is over for another year.
